What makes you think that raising the cigerette tax will have any thing to do with funds for schools. Just like all taxes the money will go into the General fund and be dispersed on anything the legislature deems, not just education. Until taxes collected go to the particular things they are supposed to i am strongly against any tax increase. Money from Tabacco should go to cessation programs and other health related issues not education. So in escense what you are suggesting to me is smoke them up help your kids are you serious. Why dont you think about that, kind of a bad picture huh..

Lane;

What makes sense is to add to the taxes of all those people who have 6-8-10 kids in the school system. NOT always putting higher "sin" taxes on people who smoke and drink everytime there is a shortfall of money. Originally, this higher cigarette tax was labeled as "to help fund the high cost of health care" for those who smoke. Even that doesn't fly with me. There are a lot of "overweight" people who put a great burden on health care. Let's tax those people when they buy soda pop, ice cream, cake, pie, and all of the other crap they stuff in their faces.

I am sick and tired of paying for everything because I smoke, consume alcohol, have to do a lot of driving for business (gas tax), etc.

Let's make the people who use all of the services, start paying for it!
